Timing Belt Replacement

The timing belt is a critical engine component that keeps the crankshaft and camshaft synchronized so the engine operates properly. Over time, the belt can deteriorate, crack, stretch, or weaken from age and mileage. Because much of this wear may not be visible during a routine inspection, timing belts should be replaced according to the vehicle manufacturer’s recommended maintenance interval.

We recommend replacing the timing belt if the vehicle has reached the manufacturer’s recommended mileage or age interval 60-90k miles, or if there is no documented history showing that it has previously been replaced.

A failed timing belt can cause the engine to stop running without warning and, on many engines, can result in severe internal engine damage and costly repairs.

When replacing the timing belt, we also recommend inspecting and, when appropriate, replacing related components such as the timing belt tensioner, idler pulleys, and water pump while the timing system is already accessible.

Replace the timing belt and associated components as preventative maintenance to help avoid unexpected breakdowns and potential engine damage.
