Differential Service

The differential is a critical part of your vehicle’s drivetrain. It transfers power from the transmission or driveshaft to the wheels while allowing the wheels to rotate at different speeds when turning. When differential components begin to wear or fail, you may experience whining, humming, grinding, clunking, vibration, fluid leaks, or excessive drivetrain play.

Our differential diagnosis and repair service may include:

• Differential Fluid Inspection – Check fluid level, condition, contamination and signs of metal particles or internal wear.
• Differential Leak Inspection – Check the housing, cover, drain/fill plugs, axle seals and pinion seal for leaks.
• Gear Inspection – Inspect ring and pinion gears, spider gears and other internal components for excessive wear or damage when disassembly is required.
• Bearing Inspection & Repair – Diagnose worn carrier, pinion and axle bearings that may cause humming, whining or grinding noises.
• Seal & Gasket Repair – Replace leaking pinion seals, axle seals, differential-cover gaskets and related seals as needed.
• Ring & Pinion Repair – Diagnose and replace damaged or excessively worn ring-and-pinion gear assemblies when necessary.
• Differential Setup & Adjustment – Check and properly set gear backlash, bearing preload and gear-contact pattern when internal differential repairs are performed.
• Axle & CV Inspection – Inspect related axle shafts, CV joints, CV boots and surrounding drivetrain components.
• Driveshaft Inspection – Inspect driveshafts, U-joints and related components when applicable.
• Differential Fluid Service – Drain contaminated or worn fluid and refill with the manufacturer-specified lubricant.
• Noise & Vibration Diagnosis – Road test and inspect the drivetrain to determine whether noises or vibrations are coming from the differential, wheel bearings, axles, driveshaft or another component.
• AWD & 4WD Systems – Inspect front and rear differentials and related transfer-case/drivetrain components as applicable.

Our goal is to accurately identify the source of the drivetrain problem before replacing components. Once diagnosed, we recommend the appropriate repair—from a simple fluid or seal service to bearing, gear, or differential assembly replacement—to restore proper operation and help prevent additional drivetrain damage.
