Diagnostic codes tell us which system has detected a problem, but they do not always identify the exact component that needs to be repaired. Why Proper Diagnosis Matters
A diagnostic trouble code does not automatically mean the component named in the code needs to be replaced. For example, an oxygen-sensor code could be caused by the sensor itself, but it could also result from a vacuum leak, wiring problem, fuel-delivery issue, exhaust leak or another condition.
Replacing parts based only on a trouble code can lead to unnecessary repairs and may leave the original problem unresolved.
